Annual inflation in China accelerated in April to 2.5%

In April, the annual consumer price inflation in China was 2.5%, having accelerated from March's value of 2.3%, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed. Inflation reached its highest level since October 2018 amid rising food prices. Food prices rose by 6.1% compared with the same month a year earlier, after a 4.1% increase in March. The cost of fresh vegetables jumped 17.4%. Non-food prices rose in April to 1.7% from 1.8% in the previous month. The clothes went up by 1.8%, household goods - by 1.1%. Statistics also showed accelerated growth in producer prices. In April, they rose 0.9% after rising 0.4% in March. The main reason for the increase in the rate was the increase in the cost of oil and other commodities.
